Why work with me?
Ah – the $64000 question! Well, therapists are many and varied in their types, styles, temperament and ideologies so my advice would be to check a few out around Manchester if you are looking to work with one.
As for me? I’ve been involved with therapy and counselling since the mid 90’s and my interest and enthusiasm has only grown. I get a buzz out of helping people and love to watch their lives improve and grow as they work through all of the issues that have been holding them back. I guess this interest is there for all to see when you look at my blog and I would encourage you to have a peruse through some of the many posts I have written.
I have a certificate in counselling skills from Salford College and I am a PTSTA in transactional analysis (TA). This basically means that I’m a fully qualified UKCP registered psychotherapist and I teach and supervise other therapists in individual and couples work.
I am fully insured have regular supervision and I am a member of the ITA and the ITAA. I have completed years of training specifically for working with couples and am an Advanced Clinician in Imago Relationship Therapy. I am one of a handful of people in the UK who has received that level of training in Imago couples work.
More important than all of these qualifications is the enjoyment I get out of being a therapist. Training is important to have if you want to be a good therapist, but it’s the relationship between me and you that will lead to your growth and my ability to listen carefully and challenge you when you are ready for it.
I have experience of working with a whole range of clients. Issues I have worked with include anxiety, depression, anger management, issues around sexuality, weight problems and feelings of boredom and hopelessness. I am a gay affirmative therapist and have worked with many gay, bisexual and lesbian individuals and couples. What ever you want to bring to me, I’m here to listen, give you hope and support, and I’ll challenge and direct at times too.
Maybe one way for you to decide whether you want to work with me is to take me for a test drive. Make an appointment and we can discuss what brings you to therapy and how I can help you. If you like what I have to say, great! We can get you started down the road to change. If you want to go try other therapists before making a decision that’s absolutely OK too.
